Give Drugs A Bad Rap

 

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

 

 

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

 

 

CONTEST DESCRIPTION:

 

The Give Drugs A Bad Rap contest (“Contest”) will begin on April 14, 2014 and end on June 14, 2014 (“Contest Period”).  The first phase of this Contest will be conducted online.  The last phase of the Contest will be conducted live during the Teen Fest event at Allentown Splash, Tennis and Fitness Park on June 14, 2014.  The top twenty-five (25) entrants will each be awarded a prize pack; ten (10) semi-finalists will each be awarded the opportunity to record their entry song at a professional recording studio in Baltimore, MD and will receive a CD containing the professional recording of their entry song (estimated retail value: $400).  From the ten (10) semi-finalists, five (5) finalists will be selected to advance to the final round of the competition and will be awarded additional prizing.  Contest entry methods, participation and prizing are more fully described below.

 

 

 

HOW TO ENTER:

 

Legal residents of the United States residing within Prince George’s County, MD who are between 13 and 22 years of age will be able to take part in this Contest.  Participants under the age of eighteen (18) must obtain parental permission prior to entering the Contest.  To participate in the Contest, participants must do the following:

 

  1. Contestants must submit a video of themselves singing an original rap, song, or poem to the provided “Give Drugs a Bad Rap” 93-second music beat.  No covers or sampling of other artists’ material or music is permitted, and may lead to disqualification.

     

  2. Upon entering the Contest website, contestants are to follow the on-screen instructions, including entering their name, date of birth, address, phone number, email address, video entry, and any optional or additional contact information, as requested, to register for a chance to win.  Parental permission will be required for any entry submitted by a participant under the age of 18.

     

  3. Submitted entries must be “family friendly,” appropriate for all audiences, and must meet the below-listed Entry Requirements.

     

  4. Upload your Contest entry to your personal YouTube account.

     

  5. Submit your video entry YouTube link by clicking the “To Submit Your Video, Click Here” or the “Submit Now” buttons on the Contest website and complete all fields on the application form on page: www.kysdc.com/givedrugsabadrap.

     

     

  6. Using the provided “Give Drugs A Bad Rap” 93-second music beat, contestants are to create their own original 93-second song, rap, or poem.  Each entry must include AT LEAST three (3) of the following anti-drug and/or anti-alcohol messages to qualify:
    • Smoking makes you, your clothes, hair, and breath stink, so others won’t want to be around you.
    • Smoking makes it hard to breathe, which means you won’t be very good at sports.
    • Drinking alcohol can make it difficult to remember things, making school and work even harder.
    • Alcohol is a depressant, which means it can make you unhappy.
    • Binge drinking is dangerous and could kill you.
    • Drinking alcohol makes you do embarrassing things, like fall down or throw up.
    • If you drink and drive, you could hurt or kill yourself or others.
    • If convicted of Driving Under the Influence (DUI), you could face a year in jail, over $1,000 in fines and fees, 12 points on your license, a suspended license, loss of car insurance, and extremely high insurance rates.
    • Marijuana can cause you to make dangerous decisions that can hurt you or others.
    • Smoking marijuana before or while driving is unsafe. You could kill yourself or others.
    • Using pills to get high, using pills that aren’t prescribed to you, and using pills in any way other than the directions on them, is dangerous.
    • Taking too many prescription drugs at once or taking them too often can damage your organs and can kill you.
    • Taking pills to stay awake won’t help you focus or perform.
    • K2-Spice can cause a serious heart attack.
    • K2-Spice can make you very sick or even kill you.
    • There is help available to stop drinking, smoking, or doing drugs like marijuana, pills, and K2-Spice.

       

  7. All Internet entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on May 21, 2014, or they will be void.

     

  8. One entry per person per day per email address during the Contest Period.

     

  9. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of a participant’s online entry, the entry will be deemed to have been made by the authorized holder of the e-mail account at the time the entry was made.

     

  10. By uploading a submission and entering this Contest, each participant represented and warrants to be bound by the Official Contest rules, that they are authorized to and have the rights to submit the contest in the entry, and that all of the below-listed requirements have been met.     

 

Entry Requirements:

  • Video entries must not exceed ninety-three (93) seconds in length
  • Entries may not be patently offensive, illegal, pornographic or obscene, or similarly inappropriate in the Station’s sole discretion.
  • Entries must not contain any profanity, obscene language, lewd or sexual content or references.
  • Submissions may not infringe upon any rights of any third party including without limitation, copyright, trademark and right of publicity or privacy
  • Entries must be produced and solely owned by the contestant (or parent/legal guardian) submitting the entry
  • Entries must not contain commercial products (e.g., clothing, toys, food) and/or their trademarks, brands, logos or endorsements
  • Entries must be unpublished and not have been submitted in other competitions
  • Submissions must not contain: derogatory characterizations of any ethnic, racial, sexual or religious groups, humiliate other people (publicly or otherwise), or otherwise assault or threaten others
  • If additional individuals are featured in the entry, each entrant warrants and represents that the entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the submission

 

 

 

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:

 

  1. The Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States residing within Prince George’s County, MD area who are from 13 to 22 years of age at the time of Contest registration.  Participants under the age of eighteen (18) must obtain parental permission prior to entering the Contest. 

 

  1. Employees of the WKYS-FM, Radio One, Inc., the Prince George’s County Health Department, Laurel Marketing Design (“LMD”), their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, general sponsors, advertisers, competitors, promotional partners, members of the immediate families, and members of the households (whether related or not) of any of the above are NOT eligible to participate or win in this Contest.  For purposes of this Contest, immediate family members mean spouses, parents, grandparents, children, and siblings and their respective spouses.

 

  1. No more than three (3) contestants may perform vocally in each video entry.  If a group entry is submitted and selected to win, the prize packages will be shared by all entrants as follows:
  • Each group member will receive one (1) prize pack
  • If selected as semi-finalists, each group member will be awarded the opportunity to record their entry song at a professional recording studio in Baltimore, MD and will receive one (1) CD containing the professional recording of their entry song
  • If selected as finalists, all group members will be awarded the opportunity to perform their entry song live on stage during Teen Fest on June 14, 2014. Each group member will be awarded one (1) $100 Visa® gift card.  The retail value of all finalist prizes won will be split equally among all group members (e.g., a group of three (3) contestants winning the second prize will each receive a $250 Visa® gift card)

 

  1. To qualify for the Contest, contestants MUST be available on the following dates in the event of being declared a semi-finalist or finalist.  Contestants unable to attend and participate in the following events are ineligible to win a semi-finalist or finalist prize:
    • May 28, 2014 or May 29, 2014: Attendance required at in-studio recording session at a professional recording studio in Baltimore.  Semi-finalists will be notified via phone if their entry is selected as one of ten (10) semi-finalists and a 40-minute time slot will be scheduled for the recording session with the contestant.  For any video entry containing more than one performing contestant (up to three individuals), ALL contestants must be available to attend the same recording session or the entry will become ineligible to receive the semi-finalist prize.
    • June 14, 2014: Attendance required during the Teen Fest event on June 14, 2014, between 5pm and 9pm, at Allentown Splash, Tennis and Fitness Park, 7210 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744.  All finalists must stand on stage while their song is played for the Teen Fest audience. Finalists may choose to sing live or lip-sync over their recording.

 

  1. Persons who have won a prize in another contest or promotion of any kind from the Station within the thirty (30) day period immediately preceding the start date of this Contest are not eligible to participate.  Only one person per family or household (whether related or not) may win in any promotion from the Station during any thirty (30) day period.

 

  1. Contestants agree to abide with any applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.

 

 

 

PRIZES:

 

  1. The following prize elements will be awarded:

 

  • The top twenty-five (25) entries will be awarded a prize pack containing one (1) t-shirt and one (1) drawstring backpack (estimated retail value: $25)
  • Ten (10) semi-finalists will be awarded the opportunity to record their entry song at a professional recording studio in Baltimore, MD and will receive one (1) CD containing the professional recording of their entry song (estimated retail value: $400)
  • From the ten (10) semi-finalists, five (5) finalists will be selected to advance to the final round of the competition and will each be awarded one (1) iPad Air Wi-Fi 16GB - Space Gray (estimated retail value: $499), three (3) tickets to the ‘Give Drugs A Bad Rap’ event (also “Event”) (estimated retail value: $30), and the opportunity to perform their song live on stage at the Event on June 14, 2014, between 5pm and 9pm, located at Allentown Splash, Tennis and Fitness Park, 7210 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744
  • The remaining five (5) semi-finalists who do not advance to the finalist round will each be awarded one (1) $100 Visa® gift card (estimated retail value: $100)
  • One (1) grand prize winner will be awarded one (1) $1,000 Visa® gift card
  • One (1) second prize winner will be awarded one (1) $750 Visa® gift card
  • One (1) third prize winner will be awarded one (1) $500 Visa® gift card
  • One (1) fourth prize winner will be awarded one (1) $250 Visa® gift card
  • One (1) fifth prize winner will be awarded one (1) $250 Visa® gift card

 

  1. No substitution of prize is offered, no transfer of prize to a third party is permitted and non-cash prizes may not be redeemed for cash value, except as determined by Station management and/or the sponsor in its sole discretion.

     

  2. All Contest winners must sign and date official Station release and waiver forms as requested.  Failure to do so will result in the winner’s forfeiture of the prize.  If the winner is a minor (under the age of 18), all release forms and affidavits must be signed by the winner’s parent or legal guardian.

     

  3. Transportation to and from the event venue, souvenirs, and incidentals will be the responsibility of the winner. 

     

  4. Gift cards are subject to terms and conditions specified by issuer.

     

  5. To the extent that prize elements are provided by third-party providers, winner agrees to look solely to applicable prize providers with respect to any claims, losses, or disputes in connection therewith.

     

  6. If for any reason a contest winner provides notice that they have decided not to accept an awarded prize, the winner may be required to sign a release form acknowledging forfeiture of the prize.  It will be at the discretion of the Contest sponsor and / or Contest administrator if another contestant is to be selected as the winner if time permits.

     

  7. Dates and times of concerts, events, activities, and trips promoted by event sponsors are subject to change and those changes are deemed to be beyond the control of the Station and the Company.  Changes of venue, cancellation of engagements by performing artists, and/or their management may be permanent in nature.  The Station and the Company are not obligated to make any effort to find an alternative prize under these circumstances.

     

  8. Prizes will be awarded only upon winner verification and final approval by the Station.   

     

  9. Winners will be instructed to come to the office of the Prince George’s County Health Department located at 1701 McCormick Drive Largo, MD 20774.  Winners must provide valid identification (i.e. via driver’s license, passport or other government-issued photo I.D.) to claim their prize.  If the winner is under the age of eighteen (18) they must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian who must provide valid identification when claiming the prize.

     

  10. If Contest winner does not claim their prize by 5pm on May 30, 2014, the prize will be forfeited.

     

  11. In the event any winner is found to be in violation of these Official Rules or is otherwise determined by the Station, in its sole discretion to be ineligible, he/she may be required to forfeit the prize or to reimburse the Station and / or any sponsor for the stated value of the prize if such a violation is found after the prize has been used by winner.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EXECUTION:

 

  1. During the Contest Period, eligible participants will be encouraged to take part in the Contest by registering online at www.kysdc.com/givedrugsabadrap.  After completing the registration process, qualified entrants will be eligible for a chance to win.

     

  2. Contestants must use the provided “Give Drugs a Bad Rap” 93-second music beat, to create their own original 93-second song, rap, or poem.  Each submitted entry must include AT LEAST three (3) of the provided anti-drug and/or anti-alcohol messages to qualify for a chance to win.

     

  3. Submitted entries will be reviewed by a judging panel comprised of staff members from the Prince George’s County Health Department, local youth outreach organizations and LMD.

     

  4. The judging panel will, in their sole discretion, determine the top twenty-five (25) entrants, which will be narrowed down to ten (10) semi-finalists, five (5) finalists, one (1) fifth place prize winner, one (1) fourth place prize winner, one (1) third place prize winner, (1) second place prize winner, and one (1) grand prize winner.    

     

  5. The top twenty-five (25) winners will be contacted during the week of May 26, 2014 and their entries will be displayed on the Contest website.

     

  6. The ten (10) semi-finalists will be notified by phone and provided with information regarding their recording session. 

     

  7. The five (5) finalists will be notified by phone and provided with information regarding their live performance.

     

  8. Finalists must be present and perform their song on stage during Teen Fest on June 14, 2014, between 5pm and 9pm, at Allentown Splash, Tennis and Fitness Park, located at 7210 Allentown Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744, to be eligible to for a chance to win the fifth, fourth, third, second, or grand prizes.

     

  9. All finalists performing in the live competition will be required to sign and submit a Participant Release form prior to their performance.

     

  10. Winners will be instructed to come to the offices of the Prince George’s County Health Department located at 1701 McCormick Drive Largo MD 20774, to claim the Prizes.  Winners will be required to present valid identification and sign a Prize Release Form.

     

  11. All decisions made by the panel of judges, the Station, and the Company regarding any aspect of this Contest are final. 

 

 

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

 

  1. Winners are responsible for all applicable taxes associated with the receipt of the prize.

     

  2. Any person winning over $600.00 in prizes will receive an IRS form 1099 at the end of the calendar year for tax purposes and a copy of such form will be filed with the IRS as required by law.

     

  3. No purchase necessary.  Contest is void where prohibited.  Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.

     

  4. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible contestants participating during the Contest Period.

     

  5. By participating in the Contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this Contest, in any media now known or hereafter devised for advertising or promotional purposes without additional compensation, and must sign a publicity release prior to acceptance of the prize.  By entering this Contest, each participant agrees to comply with these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the Station and / or Contest sponsor which shall be final and binding in all aspects relating to the Contest.

     

  6. The Station and the Company retain the right to disqualify any contestant if all Contest rules are not followed.

     

  7. So long as no participant is materially adversely affected, the Station reserves the right to make changes in the Contest rules, which will become effective upon being announced on the air and posted online.

     

  8. All Contest winners will be required to sign a liability release prior to acceptance of any prize.  Pursuant to the liability release, the winner or winners will agree to hold the Station and the Company and any other Contest parties and each of their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, agencies, officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives of each of the foregoing, harmless against any and all claims or liability, directly or indirectly related to or arising from or in connection with Contest participation or the acceptance, possession or use / misuse of any awarded prize or any portion thereof, or participation in prize-related activities, including but not limited to any related travel. 

     

  9. By accepting the prize, the winner acknowledges that the Station and the Company have neither made, nor are in any manner responsible or liable for, any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize or to any portion thereof, including but not limited to its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose.

     

  10.  The Station, the Company, participating sponsors and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates or their representatives, agents and employees are not responsible for the inability of any contestant to complete or continue an internet registration due to equipment malfunction, busy lines, inadvertent disconnections, unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP) or other connections, communication failures or human error that may occur in the transmission, receipt or processing of entries, including any injury or damage to any computer arising from or relating to participation in this Promotion.  Any use of robotic, macro, automatic, programmed or like entry methods will void all such entries, and may subject that entrant to disqualification.  In addition, the Station, the Company, participating sponsors and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates or their representatives, agents and employees are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, mutilated, illegible or incomplete contest entries.  No mechanically reproduced or automated entries permitted.  Entry materials/data that have been tampered with or altered are void.  Once submitted, entries become the property of the Station and the Company and will not be returned.

     

  11. The Station, the Company, its subsidiaries, its affiliates, participating sponsors and promotional partners will not assume any responsibility for any changes in the execution of the Sweepstakes, including cancellation of the Contest as a result of the occurrence of events not within the control of the Station, the Company, its subsidiaries, affiliates, participating sponsors, promotional partners and other radio stations, such as acts of God, strikes, terrorists acts or criminal acts of third parties.  In the event such an act should occur, the Station may in its sole discretion, offer the winner comparable prize(s) currently being offered by the Station in lieu of the prize originally awarded.

     

  12. If for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including without limitation, any suspected evidence of tampering or technological corruption or if any portion of the Contest is compromised by virus, bugs, worms or unauthorized human intervention, fraud, acts of God, strikes, terrorists acts, criminal acts of third parties, an insufficient number of qualified Contest entries, or any other causes beyond the Station and the Company’s control which, in the Station and the Company’s sole opinion, corrupts, threatens or impairs the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, the Station and the Company reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest at their sole discretion.

     

  13. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be in violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Station and the Company reserve the right to seek remedies and damages (including attorney's fees) from any such entrant to the fullest extent of the law, including criminal prosecution.

     

  14.
